John Belton, with a prolific career as a prosecutor spanning over three decades, has tirelessly dedicated himself as a public servant. Since his election as the District Attorney for The Third Judicial District, encompassing Lincoln and Union Parishes, on November 4, 2014, his influence has significantly impacted the justice system.

He held the title of President (2019-2020) of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, and has contributed to various organizations such as the National District Attorneys Association, the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, the Louisiana Livestock Brand Commission, among others. He is also affiliated with the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, Federal District Courts, and the Louisiana, Federal, and Lincoln Bar Associations.

Belton’s courtroom experience extends to criminal and civil litigation, and he provides legal advice to law enforcement officers. Furthermore, his expertise extends into administrative roles in both public and private sectors, serving on the Board of Directors for First National Bank and the Eddie G. Robinson Museum.

As co-owner of The Belton Companies with his wife Alana, Belton’s portfolio spans real estate, restaurant businesses, legal services, and a sports training facility. His contributions to community organizations are vast, including affiliations with multiple Chambers of Commerce, Boys and Girls Club of North Central Louisiana, Boys Scouts of America, United Way of Northeast Louisiana, and others. He has also educated future minds as an adjunct professor at Grambling State University.

His exemplary service has been recognized by many, earning him awards such as the Grambling State University Martin Luther King Jr.-Thurgood Marshall Justice Award and the Boys and Girls Club Community Service Award. Furthermore, he was honored as a McNeese Black Alumni Chapter Trailblazer in 2020.

Married for 26 years, Belton and his wife Alana, a former prosecutor themselves, offer Christian marriage counseling. Parents to two children, Alexis and Jon Randall, they uphold a deep commitment to their faith, family, and community service.
